An Interview with Sherlock Holmes author, Kate Workman.

My first clear memory of anything Holmes related is my dad sitting me down one day and showing me Young Sherlock Holmes, a movie made in 1985 where Holmes and Watson meet as schoolboys and solve a mystery involving an Egyptian cult. I've loved Phantom of the Opera since my freshman year, and for whatever reason, I began thinking how cool it would be to have Holmes and the Phantom in one novel. But I didn't know enough about Holmes back then to actually sit down and start writing anything. Not quite life long, but I've been aware of Sherlock Holmes as long as I can remember. I didn't realize it till years later, but it attempts to explain how Holmes became the cold, calculated, analytical man we all love from Conan Doyle. Canon chairman expects prolonged European crisis

The economic stagnation in Europe will probably be prolonged, and the pace of economic recovery in the United States will also be subdued. The Yomiuri Shimbun: What will happen with the crisis in Europe. The following are highlights from a recent interview with Fujio Mitarai, chairman and chief executive officer of Canon Inc. During the interview, Mitarai expressed his opinion that economic stagnation in Europe will continue for some time. A: If reconstruction [from the March 11 disaster] gets fully under way from around spring, it will spearhead economic recovery. Fujio Mitarai: Financial reconstruction came too late in southern European countries [such as Greece, Portugal, Italy and Spain], and long-term interest rates are rising. If European banks holding national bonds pull financing out of Asia, growth in Asia may also slow down.
