Of marketing. Girl Scout cookies' success is, I'm sure, largely because they're available only once a year. The perceived urgency sells as many boxes of Thin Mints as does the cookies' deliciousness.
One of the earliest websites I can remember visiting as a small child was The Death Clock. The site still exists, and in fact appears to have neither been updated nor redesigned in the last 10 years.
The Death Clock asks for certain personal information, which it then uses to approximate your date of death, based on . life expectancy. Adjusting factors like one's Body Mass Index, smoking habits or optimism levels allows insight into the effects of body weight and disposition.

Canon renews full-frame lenses with 24-70mm F2.8 II and stabilized ...
Canon has released three EF lenses, including an updated 24-70mm F2.8 II USM. The latest version features what is promised to be a more durable body, despite being a little smaller. In addition to this high-end full-frame standard zoom, there are completely redesigned semi-fast 24mm and 28mm F2.8 primes, both of which feature USM focus motors and image stabilization. Ultimately, the most interesting thing about these launches is the fact that Canon feels the need to update various full-frame lenses, almost as if something likely to test the quality of its existing versions was in the offing.

Mamiya Digital Imaging and Leaf Imaging, two Phase One-controlled brands in the medium-format photography market, have become one.

I want to take someone to civil court for stealing my cameras?
Hello, I need a bit of help here. I hope I can gain some advice on how to go about doing this. I had a "friend" sleep over at my house, it is her second time sleeping over since we known each other.
An Interview with Sherlock Holmes author, Kate Workman.
My first clear memory of anything Holmes related is my dad sitting me down one day and showing me Young Sherlock Holmes, a movie made in 1985 where Holmes and Watson meet as schoolboys and solve a mystery involving an Egyptian cult. I've loved Phantom of the Opera since my freshman year, and for whatever reason, I began thinking how cool it would be to have Holmes and the Phantom in one novel. But I didn't know enough about Holmes back then to actually sit down and start writing anything. Not quite life long, but I've been aware of Sherlock Holmes as long as I can remember. I didn't realize it till years later, but it attempts to explain how Holmes became the cold, calculated, analytical man we all love from Conan Doyle. I finally sat down and began writing Rendezvous at the Populaire in 2007, seven years after I graduated...
The Canon 100 and 50 macros share the same 52mm filter threads as my other FD lenses, the Vivitar and Tokina macros are larger. I considered the Canon 100 and 50 mm macro lenses for the FD system and a couple of third party 90mm macros which are highly regarded. Since this will find use as a general purpose optic when I want to travel light with just one lens yet retain close focusing ability, it would be nice if the filters I already have will fit. That outing made me realize that I wanted to have the option of having a useful “walk around” lens with close focusing ability for such occasions. Both the 50 and the 100 will go to half life-size by themselves, but with my existing extension tube the fifty will go to 1:1. Fiddly it was as I lumbered around Happy Hollow Gardens, swapping constantly between the 50/1. If I add that combination to my 2x teleconverter, I get a very slow but serviceable twice lifesize. As usual, just about everything bar the close-ups was shot with the 50mm, which I’ve come to realize is my favorite focal length of the ones I have available....

The Top 10 Photo Techniques of 2011

One easy way to improve your exposure is with the Histogram tool--get the scoop in " Improve the Exposure of Your Photos With Just a Few Clicks. Spend some time mastering tricks like the rule of thirds and the rule of diagonals by reading " The Rules of Photographic Composition. Improve Exposure with Histograms In the old days, the only way to improve the exposure of a photo was in a darkroom. Submit a photo to the Digital Focus Hot Pic of the Week contest with confidence. There are a few simple rules of photo composition that, when you can consistently apply them, will elevate your photos above "snapshot" status. It's true that rules are made to be broken, but you should really understand the basics before you start flouting convention. Understand Megapixels, Megabytes, and DPI Never again feel confused when someone asks for a photo "in 300 dpi" or be unsure if your picture is too big to email. Read the rest of this entry »
We will spend several days in the Falklands, six or seven days at South Georgia, and then head to the South Orkneys and the Antarctic Peninsula before heading north through the famed and feared Drake Passage. I am sitting on a tour bus with my photo gear and 1/3 of the group that will be boarding the Ortelius this afternoon for 26 days of touring the Southern Ocean. We will wind up back in Ushuaia, Argentina on the early morning of January 25th to catch our flights home later in the day. I am looking forward to a great adventure and to sharing my favorite images with you when I get home. Seeing his great images in Birder’s World magazine had inspired me year’s before that. It is the last day of 2011. See Ya Later....
Does the Canon Power Shot SD200 battery work with any other Canon camera?
A little girl dropped my camera when it was on, the part that zooms in and out, that was the part that hit the ground and it was jammed. Now the camera can't take pictures the screen goes black and it say E18 on the bottom left.
The SD200 is a very outdated model, released late in 2004...newer models now have IS (image stabilization), better image quality and features, so thinking of a possible repair on old technology is a waste of time.
