Manfrotto launch SYMPLA video rigs for HDSLRs and camcorders ...
HDSLR cameras and ever-smaller pro camcorders have changed videography dramatically, and along with the obvious advantages and opportunities presented by smaller, lighter cameras come new problems to solve. As ENG camera operators started to use smaller camcorders, and photographers were expected to shoot broadcast-quality video footage on their HDSLRs, both groups found that their cameras alone didn’t have the ergonomic form for steady shoulder-mounted or hand-held footage; nor the attachment points for monitors, batteries, light-modifiers or accessories; nor the inherent weight that would help minimize camera shake.

Manfrotto Accessories | Yadoo
I’m filming my first wedding tomorrow and am in the market for my first DECENT tripod. Up until this point I’ve really only used ones from my course or the odd cheapie from friends or for ‘point and click’ cameras.
So the last 24 hours have been a muddle while I have tried to get my head around what to look for in a professional (low budget, $250 – $350) tripod.
I first enquired into Miller tripods, having worked with them before, I thought they would be best. Unfortunately I felt the terms on the site were a bit confusing and so I sought out info to help me understand what kinds of specifications I should look for and what certain terms meant. But after reading a few forums and sites such as 5D Filmmaking I was introduced to the world of Manfrotto.

Matthias Hombauer: What´s in my concert photography bag ...
In this tutorial I would like to show you the equipment that I am using on a regular basis for my concert photography work.
I started with a Canon 40D and the 50mm 1.8 lens in small clubs. As I discussed earlier in this venues you often have to deal with low light conditions. The 40D gave me the opportunity to push the ISO settings until 3200. In combination with an aperture of 1.8 I was able to get some great pictures.

The Vinten Vision Blue features a solid construction with a very smooth action. Fitted with a standard 75mm ball mount, the Blue supports an 11lb. payload with a near 90-degree tilt capability. I like the illuminated spirit level (in blue of course), and the raised spreader that stays mercifully clear of dirt and debris. My main areas of concern include the protruding the pan/tilt wing adjusters that seem unnecessarily prone to impact damage, and the lack of a zero drag resistance setting, which complicates routine camera setup and balancing. Still, at only a few hundred dollars more, the Vision Blue is a significant move up from the cruder, more ubiquitous Manfrotto 501 and 503 models....

Tripod and monopod
Either or both of these items could be very important in helping you take quality bird images. Again, whether you need either of these items depends on what method you will be using to take bird photos–from your car, hiking trails, waiting in a hide, etc. It also depends on whether you get a lens with stabilization and/or how well you’ve developed your shooting technique. It usually takes some time to get used to a heavy camera/lens combination and to develop the correct technique that allows you to handhold your camera when taking bird shots. So you may need at least a monopod, if not a tripod, unless you will be shooting from a vehicle most of the time like I do.
