Olympus TG-320: Minor update to rugged lifestyle camera
06.02.12
Like its predecessor, last year's TG-310 , the Olympus Tough TG-320 is both shockproof to five feet and freezeproof to 14°F / -10°C, not to mention waterproof to ten feet. The TG-320 still has a 14 megapixel image sensor, and includes true mechanical image stabilization. Also unchanges are the 28 - 102mm equivalent, 3.6x optical zoom lens, and 2.7-inch LCD display. Changes since last year's model are relatively few: a slightly lower list price at launch, the addition of dustproofing to the spec sheet, a new Sparkle Magic Filter function, and a slight 0.1fps reduction in burst speed to 0.6 fps accompanied by a huge increase in burst depth (200 vs. 2 full-res frames).

com, it got my attention because it was noted for great performance in low light / high iso conditions, such as shooting indoors without a flash, or shooting your daughter/son playing basketball in a gymnasium, where built-in flashes do not have... This, plus in-camera image stabilization and very usable 18-55 and 55-300 kit lenses, sounded worth trying. The first thing I noticed about the Pentax when I unpacked it was that it felt much more robust than the Nikon D5000 or Canon Rebel that I had checked out at Costco. So I found a great deal through Amazon, and bought the Pentax K-R right around Thanksgiving. This was disconcerting next to my rock solid Olympus. The second thing I noticed was that after I charged the battery and powered up for the first time, the display glitched. There was something flopping around inside when I tipped the camera back and forth....

The right PEN for you!
02.01.12
It was my first time to hold it, but because of my familiarity with PEN cameras, it took me just 5 minutes to familiarize myself with it. I just made a few customizations and I was good to go. The rest is history and now we have the longest running brand-specific camera club in the Philippines &ndash. It was also weather resistant and, by far, one of the most durable cameras I have ever used. My first DSLR was an Olympus E-1 which was then the top of the line from their line-up. I started using Olympus Digital cameras way back in 2005. They were also generous enough to lend each and every participant a PEN for the duration of the event. There were no groups specific to Olympus users then so I started an e-group in 2006. It only had 5 megapixels and a miniscule LCD but it was built like a tank. 19, I was fortunate to be invited by Red Dot Philippines to a Photo Shoot at Corregidor. Read the rest of this entry »
In this video I will be doing a start up of the Olympus Tough TG-610. I will also do a water test.
Olympus TG-610 Tough Review
Most underwater digital camera reviews have a particular liking for the Olympus TG-610, and this can be easily justified. The Olympus TG-610 looks like it has replicated the front panel design from its predecessors. Being one of the best digicams in the Tough series to date, the TG-610 has wowed both amateur and veteran photographers with its exclusive new features packed under the hood. At just about the same size and weight as the Stylus Tough, the TG-610 can be easily slipped into a pocket. As ruggedly handsome as ever, this Olympus camera gives discerning users a good reason to take it along even in the most challenging situations. But all of these exterior attributes are just proper for a camera that has the ability to protect itself from damage. It still employs the rugged look of the ones that came before it, with metal details and protruding screws....

Blurring the lines
24.12.11
There is not much that rivalling camera manufacturers are offering in terms of design, quality and features, and you're likely to find a near-replica of any Canon, Olympus, Panasonic or Nikon superzoom out there. In terms of build and weight, it's just a little bit smaller than the Nikon D3100 or Canon 1000D, and probably larger than Panasonic and Olympus micro four-thirds cameras. According to Canon, it's by creating a superzoom which gives you a complete DSLR-like experience, at a competitive price – the PowerShot SX40 HS. Build and looks. Except for the superzoom fixed lens and the zoom toggle switch, there's not much to differentiate it with other Canon DSLRs. If you've handled a Canon DSLR recently, the SX40 will put you at ease almost instantly. The body itself is designed to completely mimic a digital SLR, so you get your mode dial, directional pad, shutter button, pop out flash and even a protrusion imitating the lens-release button. Unboxing the SX40 is almost akin to unpacking a DSLR. Read the rest of this entry »
